Challenge Mike!

Mike journey has begun

18-year old Mike Perham recently announced plans to become the youngest person to fly solo around the world at a press conference, hosted aptly in the Futures Pavilion at the Farnborough International Air Show. It came just 11 months after Perham returned to a hero's welcome in Portsmouth last August to become the youngest person to sail around the world single handed.

Cabair Flying Schools are sponsoring Mike to achieve his PPL - the first major step towards the necessary qualifications which will enable Mike to fly solo around the world. If everything comes together in time, he hopes to be off next summer.

merger

Cabair and Flying Pictures propose merger

Cabair Holdings Limited, owner of Europe’s largest independently owned Flight Training Organisation, is pleased that, following an investment by Flying Pictures Limited in shares of the company and as a precursor to a proposed merger, Colin Prescot has joined their Board as Deputy Chairman.Colin remains CEO of Flying Pictures Ltd., best known for their aviation input to the Harry Potter and James Bond films flight sequences. He brings his wide marketing and promotional skills to aid and advance Cabair’s global expansion.

James Hunter Smart, currently Finance Director of Flying Pictures Ltd., joins the Board at the same time to head the finance function.

Currently, the economic climate in the UK demands that Cabair’s reputation for outstanding flight training becomes a world brand. Colin and James bring unique experience that will enable Cabair to meet this strategic objective more rapidly than would otherwise have been possible.

Cabair and Flying Pictures have worked together in the past and have already identified the advantages of linking together in UK and overseas where both companies have significant interests (especially in Florida USA).

Mike Perham

Cabair Flying Schools Sponsorship

Robin Knox-Johnston said it could be suicidal. The head of the Royal Yachting Association told him not to go. Mike Perham ignored them and in August 2009, at the age of just 17 years, 5 months and 11 days, became the youngest person to have sailed solo around the world.

Now Mike has set his sights on becoming the youngest person to fly solo around the world and Cabair is delighted to be sponsoring Mike in gaining his Private Pilot Licence - the first rung on the ladder to achieving his goal.

Spain

London School of Flying trip to Spain great success

LSFs trip to Requena was a flying success with 7 members taking up the opportunity to fly around mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands (not for the clubbing we might add) in one weekend, flying in excess of 30 hours.

Challenges faced included ‘hot and high’ flying, constant filing of flight plans, navigating the desert looking and mountainous terrain, and not getting in the way of too many commercial airlines flying holiday makers to Ibiza!

Watch this space for news on our next exciting trip - always a must for those looking for new and challenging flying experiences. To see our Photo Gallery of the trip click here.
